yglesias is a bright one

"Focus resources on getting Baghdad -- where a huge proportion of the population lives -- up to that standard. More or less let things drift elsewhere and start worrying about that if and when Baghdad is under control."

I read somewhere that was what we were doing by giving up some of the cities that are now coming back to bite us.

Oh well.

I read somewhere, I think on Belmont Club that the way to defeat an insurgency is give them some territory, let them become comfortable and connected to it so they have to defend it, and then destroy them. Basically, you give them a safe place so they will all gather together so you can get them all, or at least a majority.

I don't know how true this is, or if it is good advise or not but it makes some sense to me.

hmmm kinda like the fly paper theory.

attacking iraq brought all the terrorist to one place to fight us.

eventhough they might be in iraq they still are not very visible.

I don't know about that idea, because they can easily melt into the population once we attack. So it might cycle for awhile, and i somehow think the finer points of combat might be lost on the civilian involed.

In short, i don't know what america can do.

I know what Iraq can do, find the killers, and never stop fighting for their freedom
